NC 4-H Alumni Scholarship Application

Each year at the State 4-H Horse Show, the Alumni Showmanship Class is held as a fundraiser for this scholarship. Specific consideration for financial need is the primary focus of this scholarship.

Who can apply?

Any 4-Her of any age may apply. The 4-Her must be currently enrolled and in good standing with their county and participating in the NC 4-H Horse Program.

When are applications due?

Applications will be reviewed twice yearly.  Spring applications will be due March 31st and awards distributed in April.  Fall applications will be due November 28th and will be distributed in December.

What can this money be used for?

This scholarship can be used to support any aspect related to the 4-H Horse Program or the 4-H Horse Project. Examples can include, but are not limited to:
  • Entry fees for a NC 4-H horse show, clinic, or contest
  • Hotel or travel (gas, meals, etc.) to a NC 4-H horse show, clinic, or contest (county, district, state, regional, or national level)
  • Equipment needed to participate in a clinic, contest, or show (study materials, tack, etc.)

How much money is available?

Each year the total amount collected from the Alumni Showmanship Class will be divided among the five districts as evenly as possible. As such, award amounts available may vary from year to year.

How will applications be reviewed?

A review committee that includes one representative from the NC 4-H Horse Advisory Committee and one 4-H agent from each of the districts reviews and ranks the applications. The review committee may award full or partial scholarships based on the number of applications and level of need. All information remains confidential and is managed by the NC State 4-H Horse Program.
