The 5th Annual NC State 4-H Alumni Showmanship Class was held Saturday, July 13 during the evening program of the NC State 4-H Horse Show. Eleven alumni entered the class. $3665 scholarship dollars were raised, bringing the five-year total to $15,863.00. The Alumni Showmanship funds are distributed annually to the five district 4-H horse councils to provide scholarship money and financial assistance to deserving NC 4-H’ers who wish to participate in educational events, clinics, camps, or shows.

Cabarrus County 4-H alumnus Cameron Van Sickle retained his title as the 2024 class winner, showing Too Busy To Sleep, and channeling his best Mr. Bob Ross impersonation. Cameron also received the Sponsorship Challenge Award for collecting the most sponsorships. Reserve class champion honors went to former Union County alumna and current leader, Samantha Taylor showing NCSU Set in Chocolate. Sam was dressed as a very green 4-H Clover. Judge Lori Gordon selected Rockingham County leader Bill Crouse as the Most Fly Alumni. Bill, AKA Santa Claus, clogged his pattern to the tune of “Christmas Time’s A Comin.”

If you are a 4-H alumnus and are interested in participating in the 2025 Alumni Showmanship class, please contact Extension Equine Husbandry in the weeks leading up to the show if you need help securing a horse to use for the class. There are always 4-H’ers willing to loan their horses for the class, and it is always a fun-filled event!
