Collapse ▲The 2024 NC State 4-H Horsebowl Contest was held on March 9, 2024, in conjunction with the State Hippology Contests. One hundred and thirty-seven youth competed on a total of 30 teams in the Junior, Senior, and Mixed divisions. In addition, 7 Cloverbud youth, ages 5-7, completed three rounds of play.
Sponsors for this year’s contest were the North Central District 4-H Horse Council, Stacy Adams, and the Dale Earnhardt Foundation.
In the junior division, the Catawba County team consisting of Lily Bean, Peyton Smith, Sam O’Neill, Clare Bravo, and Alayna Myers captured the champion team title. The team was coached by volunteer leaders Cindy Boger and April Bean. Union County 4-H’er Kylee Greene was named the high-scoring junior individual. Kylee’s coach was Christine Garber.
Chatham County took home the Mixed division team title. Team members were Hannah Oberman, Claire Stoeckel, Brooke Peterson, Grace Matthews, and Mary McLaughlin. Ruth Vorder Bruegge and Mary Dickerson, volunteer leaders, were the coaches of the Chatham team. High-scoring individual honors in the Mixed division went to Amanace County 4-H’er Allee Coble. Allee was coached by Cassandra Sigmon.
Senior team honors went to the undefeated team from Wake County. Team members were Emmy Creek, Morgan Grossheim, Eva McCarty, and Karly Stevens. Wake County volunteer leader Beth Morgan coached the team. Emmy Creek was the high-scoring individual in the Senior Division.
