The 4th Annual NC State 4-H Alumni Showmanship Class was held Saturday, July 8 during the evening program of the NC State 4-H Horse Show. Nineteen alumni entered the class. $4196 scholarship dollars were raised, crushing the previous high total by over $1000 dollars. The Alumni Showmanship funds are distributed annually to the five district 4-H horse councils so they can provide scholarship money and financial assistance to deserving NC 4-H’ers who wish to participate in educational events, clinics, camps, or shows.

Cabarrus County 4-H alumnus Cameron VanSickle was the 2023 class winner. Cameron showed Mack, owned by Wayne County 4-H’er JW Lynch. Cameron was last year’s Sponsorship Challenge Winner. Reserve class champion honors went to former Wake County 4-H’er, Robin Brantley Lynn showing Radical Rachel. Robin was dressed as former Extension Horse Specialist Dr. Bob Mowrey. Dr. Mowrey served as a guest judge for this year’s class and selected Union County alumna and current leader Samantha Taylor as the Most Fly Alumni. Sam’s granny costume and perfectly timed dance moves earned her the title for a second time. Sam was the inaugural winner of the coveted Most Fly Cup. Sam has perpetually been the runner-up for the Sponsorship Challenge Award, but this year she was the winner!

We appreciate all the creativity and hard work that goes into entering this class. It’s always a treat to see alumni in action!
