The 2024 Candace Norman Youth and Adult Service Awards were presented during the opening ceremonies of the NC State 4-H Horse Show on July 12. These awards are sponsored by the North Central District, in memory of long-time NC 4-H Horse Program and Orange County volunteer, Candace Norman. They are given annually to a 4-H youth member and adult volunteer who exhibit true dedication to and embodies all the characteristics and morals of 4-H – a well-rounded person who strives to make the community a better place through example and leadership.

Youth Award Winner: Graham Zeiders, Chatham County

Graham has been an amazing volunteer for numerous 4-H events over the years. Not only is he a major volunteer for the Chatham County 4-H Horsekateers, but he has volunteered for almost every District and State 4-H Horse Show, District/State Horse Bowl competition, and State Judging Competition since he has been a 4-H member. Oftentimes, he drives several hours just to volunteer without participating in the event himself. Anyone who has encountered him while volunteering can count on his persistent positive demeanor and eagerness to help with anything asked of him. Graham is more than deserving of the Candace Norman Service Award. As 4-H youth, we remember Candace as a volunteer that everyone relied on for her expertise and competence. Graham carries on her legacy by volunteering for almost every 4-H event, putting his full effort into the experience while also fostering an inclusive atmosphere throughout his team competitions.
