The 2023 Candace Norman Youth and Adult Service Awards were presented during the opening ceremonies of the NC State 4-H Horse Show on July 7. These awards are sponsored by the North Central District, in memory of long-time NC 4-H Horse Program and Orange County volunteer, Candance Norman. They are given annually to a 4-H youth member and adult volunteer who exhibit true dedication to and embodies all the characteristics and morals of 4-H – a well-rounded person who strives to make the community a better place through example and leadership.
Youth Award Winner: Kyra Worth, Chatham County
Kyra has been a 4-H’er for over 9 years and has been a long-time volunteer for the Walk in My Shoes Therapeutic Riding program in Johnston County. Kyra is a mentor for her other 4-H peers in the Horsekateers 4-H Horse Club in Chatham County. Just as Candace Norman was the volunteer that everyone relied on, Kyra is similarly depended upon by her teammates and coaches as a rational, calm, dependable team leader. Kyra embodies the “servant leader” mindset, fostering an inclusive atmosphere by working in the trenches with those she is leading. She is a 4-Her that will be remembered and emulated by all youth for years to come.
