Collapse ▲Each year at the State 4-H Horse Show, the junior and senior sportsmanship awards recognize young people who truly embody the 4-H characteristics of a helpful, kind leader. After nominations close, the advisory committee reviews each submission to determine the recipients.
This year’s awards were sponsored by the North Central District 4-H Horse Council in memory of longtime Rockingham County volunteer leader, Pam Holland, and were presented during the Saturday evening program.
Here is what was said about this year’s winners:
Junior Award Winner: Harleigh Nealon, Wilson County
Harleigh consistently shows remarkable respect for her fellow competitors, their horses, and the show officials, embodying the true spirit of equestrian sportsmanship. She is always among the first to offer encouragement, a helping hand, or assistance to others, whether in victory or defeat. Her unwavering positive attitude and commitment to fair play, even in challenging situations, make her an exemplary role model for all equine athletes.

Senior Award Winner: Addison Taylor, Union County
Addison has been called “the most helpful youth you will ever find at a horse show.” She’ll jump on any horse, in any discipline, to help a fellow rider in need. This selfless support is simply second nature to her. Addison also loves her “littles,” and will happily watch them for parents so they can focus on their own kids’ classes. She works tirelessly with a humble attitude and never seeks recognition for her efforts.
